Halloween

This year we decided to forgo Halloween costumes, we have been so busy with everything else on the go that we didn't know how we were going to fit them in.
Well Halloween is my favourite!!!! I thought I could sacrifice it but I just couldn't! October 30 we managed to whip something up. As you know we are expecting so we had to think of a costume that was appropriate. We wanted to do something original so costumes like bun in the oven and zombie baby arms were out of the question. We ended up going as "The Mummy." I went as a mummy and Jason dressed up as Brendan Fraser's character.
My costume even included some sewing. I took lots of pictures so you could see the process of creating our ultimate costume.

First off we bought all of our supplies. Old sheet, lace curtains, tank top, beige pants and a long sleeve shirt.

Once we got home I quickly ripped up the sheets that we just bought and threw them into a bucket of tea. We made it nice and hot so the color would stick and stay. Our tea concoction was quite steamy, I needed a long spoon to stir all these sheets but we didn't have one so I just used a curtain rod. I felt like a witch making my potion.

Once the sheet strips were stained and dried I began sewing them onto beige pants. First I tried wrapping it around he legs and then sewing down in strips but that was quite frustrating. I kept stabbing myself with pins and there were needles everywhere. I ended up not using pins at all. I just free handed it. I just put in large stitches and wrapped the material around the legs as I went. Which turned out perfect since I was going for a bit raggedy. I found the perfect shirt so luckily I didn't have to sew the shirt as well.

Here is the finished mummy costume.

Our couple costume.
Yes, this is as spooky as I get for Halloween. I much prefer fun to scary.

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

Don't Look Up

We painted the entire ceiling. It was alright, the stipple soaked up a lot of paint so it didn't look as good as it was supposed to.

When that happens you let it dry and then paint another coat. That is exactly what we did. Problem was that when we put the second coat on the stipple started to peel. Not just small pieces large chunks.
Plan B - scraping off all the stipple and repainting the ceiling.

I am beginning to wonder if this room is going to be done by the the Bee shows up. We only have five more weeks left and I have so much to do still.

B-E-A-utiful morning

I love waking up to snow. Okay that's a lie. 5 cm in the morning is gorgeous. 15 cm not so much. Also I hate driving in snow and being pregnant. Winter driving before no problem. Remember your gloves, take a shovel and your set. Now if I get stuck I'm stuck. I can't just jump out if the car and push. I am weak. Shovel. Yea.... About that. I am weak. If I get stuck I'm pretty much stuck.

First up

Well we have been in our new place for 5 whole days!!!! Time to get started on the joys of home ownership. Luckily we have the best family and they also know a lot. They might stop answering my phone calls in a week or so.....
Monday night is family night right? What better night would there be to recruit family and put them to work. Project: baby room
First stop totem!!! And they finally had popcorn.....

We picked up paint and all of its needed supplies. Whoop whoop!!
Family started showing up, then oh wait we have a stupid toilet and leaky tap. Dad to the rescue!!! Tadadadaaa.... I wish I had a picture of him in a superhero cape. It would be a fitting image. Toilet fixed no problem. The leak was a bit trickier but after a quick run to home hardware we had everything under control again.

Time to paint?? Yes. Well we got the ceiling and the doors done. Not a heck of a lot but a start. The ceiling absorbed a ton of paint so we are going to have to do another coat. Same with the doors. They already look so much better white. I'm not sure why anyone would paint all the doors in the house pink but it happened.

Til me meet again

Jason's grandpa passed away last week. It was not a surprise but it still was sad news. Grandpa had throat cancer for almost a year. He was still able to enjoy the summer and participate in activities that him and grandma loved. It was a blessing to be able to enjoy time with him before things took a turn for the worse.
We were able to spend lots of time with family this last weekend. My husbands family is incredible and I loved meeting more of his extended family. We had so much fun despite the circumstances.

Home sweet home

It's official!!! We own our own home. We moved in last Wednesday and let me tell you it has be a whirlwind these last couple of weeks. I feel like I have been in hyperdrive. I am seriously in need of a nap but there is so much to do I find myself just wanting to get everything done.
Luckily our house is in pretty decent shape minus leaky taps, toliet that takes forever to flush, tiny bathtub and ugly paint/styling. Mostly easy fixes and it will give us the opportunity to make our home "our home".
We practically unpack a room everyday even though some days we don't get home til after 10:00...... Hence no sleep.
We have a massive pile of boxes and if I could get up and down off the floor easy I would make the sweetest cardboard fort. It's practically a whole room. Check it out!!

Find a Penny, pick it up and all day you'll have good luck!!

Our adventure to the LDS Calgary Temple Open house began way earlier than Lindsey's like to get up. 5:30 is too early to be functioning in my books. We had a great beginning of a trip, stopped for gas and what did we find a PENNY at the pump from Ecuador!!!!

Of course we picked it up. Can't let good luck go to waste. That would just be silly. I am sure that the penny helped us arrive at our destination without getting lost and with plenty of time to spare. Okay so maybe the GPS helped a bit too.

Here are a bunch of pictures of the new temple from the outside. Pictures are not taken inside because the temple is a sacred place, the house of The Lord. The inside was absolutely beautiful. All of the workmanship is done to perfection. The stain glass, paintings, wood, carpet and every single detail inside.

When new temples are built, the surrounding area is taken into consideration regarding the design. Inside the Calgary Temple there is a lot of wheat. Wheat because of the importance of agriculture in Alberta. It can be found on the walls (in the art work), on the door handles, railings, furniture pieces and my favorite was the stain glass. Here is a picture of the stain glass from the outside. I love the colors they chose! They remind me of my wedding colors. Creme, golden browns and light teals. Gorgeous!!
Holiness to the Lord is engraved on all LDS temples as a reminder of where you are and the sacred purposes of the Temple.
Interesting fact: The granite on the outside is from China.

I absolutely love this picture. The clouds look amazing! This is the front entrance.

The view from the temple grounds. Look at those mountains, I think that they picked the right colors. The sky almost matches perfectly with the stained glass windows.

On the very tip top is the Angel Moroni.
The Calgary Temple is the 140th temple of the Church and is the 8th in Canada. Three of which are in Alberta. We are so spoiled to have so many Temples in our province. The other Temples are located in Cardston and Edmonton. Calgary Temple will serve approximately 25,000 LDS Members in the surrounding area. That's a lot of people, very exciting.  I am sure that once the Temple officially opens that lots of LDS members will serve their ancestors and find peace and comfort within its walls.

Temple service is a great work, I am grateful that I have the opportunity to live close to a few different Temples and to participate in bringing families together. Knowing that I will be with my Family forever brings me joy. I want to do all that I can to bring that same joy to others.

If you have any questions regarding the LDS church or LDS temples please go to www.mormon.org
You will find answers to the questions that you have and maybe even answer some questions you haven't thought of yet. I encourage you to take some time to gain a greater understand of the purpose of Temples and Temple worship.

32 weeks...

I really want to tell you all how much I love being pregnant but the honest truth is I can't wait for it to be over! I am doing my best to be patient but these last couple weeks have been dragging. We move this next week, hopefully that will take my mind off of still being 2 months away from baby time.
I have enjoyed feeling Baby Bee kick and squirm but I would also like to sleep every now and then. I am going to like holding him, tickling him and watching him smile so much more.
The first two trimesters were alright nothing really exciting, but the third trimester, holy moly everything changed. I can barely fall asleep and when I do it isn't for long. Bee is always waking me up. My legs are stiff and cramped, my muscles just aren't happy. I'm hot, cold, head achy, tired and wide awake. Somehow these all happen at the same time or I cycle through them all quickly. Urgggg. I can be a little complainy right?? I can do anything for a couple months. I'm sure some people love being pregnant but not I. I think I will love being a mom a lot more.
32 Weeks and yes this is my favorite prego outfit. It is unbelievably comfortable. I would probably wear it everyday if that was socially acceptable.......
