Christmas Day

Christmas Day was wonderful!

We woke up at Rangers and were ready for the magic of Christmas morning.

Bee doesn't understand Christmas or presents really but he is nailing the art of ripping open presents. He forgets about them promptly but he had a great time. He was very considerate and handed Jason all the little pieces of paper to throw away.

The kids loved playing and reading with Jason's Mom. They were so cute.

I finished Sweet's baby blanket just in time. She liked how soft it was. I am hoping that she enjoys it for years to come.

We spent the morning in our matching jammies, yes we are that family, playing with our new toys.

The men in the family played Talisman, as tradition. Jason has all of the current boards. When they set it up it took the whole dining room table. It was crazy huge, I wish I would have taken a picture. They played for over 6 hours. I would never do that. A game of Monopoly is long enough for me.

There was a big extended family dinner. The food was so good and the company was great. There was lots of conversation, puzzles and singing.

My favorite part of the day was Jason's Dad and Uncle singing in the living room. They had been singing for a while and I was trying to get Sweets asleep in one of the bedrooms. She obviously wasn't going to sleep so we went and listened to them. They were playing a bunch of older tunes, loved it. Dan, Jason's uncle, noticed Lily and he sang her a lullaby. It was very thoughtful and beautiful.

Sweets loved her Great Uncle Chris. She was so ticklish and she kept flopping over backwards. After a while she fell asleep in his arms. He was so excited that she enjoyed spending time with him.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Twelfth Day of Christmas

Christmas Eve!!

Yeah!

Today we had quite the mix up with our planning. We arrived at my parents ready to celebrate. Well, nobody was there except my little sister. Whom I love but we were expecting the whole family and for the festivities to begin. Surprise, surprise. My mom was even off at work for a few hours so we took the liberty of cleaning the house for her. I hope she enjoyed the surprise when she came home. We even had lunch ready for her when she came back.

We played clue, opened gifts from my side and went to my grandma's for the traditional taco dinner. GG Jo was impressed with Bee again. He is so good at playing gently with the toys hat she has for him.

After dinner we rushed over to Jason's parents to open presents. They open family presents Christmas Eve and do Santa presents Christmas Morning. Jason played Talisman with the men and I finished Sweets baby quilt. After a while Jaden joined me for a movie night before bedtime. It was nice to spend time with Jaden, hes a great brother in law.

We spent the rest of the night at Jason's parents. A wonderful and busy Christmas Eve.

Eleventh Day of Christmas

Today we ventured outside. It was simply beautiful! We went to watch a live re-enactment of the nativity. The story of Christ birth. I have been every year that I remember and we will take our family. Its a good reminder about the real reason for the season.

It was beautiful outside. It was close to 0 degrees and was snowing just enough. It was gorgeous. Bee and I caught snowflakes in our mouths.

On our drive home we looked at more Christmas lights. Such a great evening.

Tenth Day of Chistmas

Bee wasn't home today, he was at my parents having a Christmas sleepover.

We spent the day finishing our shopping!! That's right we are done. We only had stocking to finish up but they are complete now.

Today is my Grandma's birthday so we had an impromptu birthday dinner at Arby's. Surprise! It was a nice time but way different than the usual dinner that we have. This is also our fourth birthday celebration this month. I've decided that is enough December birthdays.

After dinner we went to a live nativity that is put on by the LDS church. There is live sheep and a donkey. Bee really liked the sheep. We attend annually and often it is crazy cold. This year was perfect. it was a bit chilly but not so cold that we were shaking. It was even snowing just a tiny bit which made for a nice effect. I love going to the nativity every year. It helps me to remember the reason for the season and really get me excited for Christmas.

When we got home we read our story and the kids jumped in bed. We adults turned on "It's a wonderful life," and assembled our stockings. It will be nice not to have to find time to get them organized when we are bouncing between our families homes. Maybe we are just extra organized this year but I hope we can get this done and out of the way before Christmas Eve, every year. Fingers crossed.

I am getting more excited for Christmas to be here in three days but I think I will get more excited as my kids get older. Bee know how to open presents but he doesn't really know what is in store for December 25. Next year he will be overcome with excitement I'm sure.

Six Months

Sweets at 6 months!

Here is my little babe not so little anymore. I cant believe that she is big enough to crawl. She especially loves to chase after my necklaces.
(okay so my video isn't working... Ill try and fix that)

My two kiddos love each other. Sweets is always watching and observing Bee.
He loves it and I love watching them together.

Nineth Day of Christmas

Tonight we had our annual Hudson Christmas Party. There was cousins everywhere and I loved it. We are blest to have family close and lots of them.

This Hudson gathering had a few first time occurrences with my Grandpaw. Never in my life have I seen him check the table for the correct placement of silverware. He was helping in the kitchen, he cut buns. Simple, simply amazing. During dinner my Dad was holding Sweets so that I could enjoy my dinner and help Bee. While I was eating I saw my Grandpaw asking my Dad if he could take Sweets so that my Dad could eat. Not a big deal to some people but I don't ever recall my Grandpaw asking to hold a baby let alone before he ate dinner! After dinner Grandpaw cleared the dishes. Then he suggested that we watch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. I'm glad we watched it. Bee loved the music. He danced the night away will his ballerina moves. Mostly just lots of twirling and his hands up in the air pointing in every direction. It was wonderful..

We re-enacting the nativity, it wouldn't be Christmas without it. Sweets is the newest grandbaby so she got to be Baby Jesus. She did make a very pretty Jesus. Jason and I were Mary and Joseph. Bee was one of the most adorable Wisemen that I have ever seen. The costumes were one size fit all so we did our best to make it work. I think it made Bee even cuter.

Bee was super spoiled and got to sleep over at my parents house underneath their Christmas Tree.

Eigth Day of Christmas

We were lucky enough to qualify to attend a Great Grands Christmas party thrown by Jason's grandma. Extended family events are getting so huge so I completely understand why Grandma had a special party so that she could enjoy the children. We weren't the only family there, our three nephews were there too. We opened the presents from GGRoma and the kids loved them. It was nice to have special new things for them to play with while we waited for dinner.

Dinner was nice and simple. Pizza and wings! Yum! What a perfect idea. We ordered in. Cleanup was a cinch. Bam. Perfect evening.

Grandma has two missionaries living in her basement and because she is fantastic her home has become a missionary gathering center. When we were there the missionaries came by. Its always nice to meet them and hear a bit of their story. Today we were lucky enough to run into a missionary I met last year at my parents. On Christmas morning my parents often invite the missionaries over. My mom makes them up stockings and gives them little treats. Its nice and sometimes I don't get it. Its Christmas morning, time for me to be with family. I forget that they aren't with their family. I'm sure that they enjoy the craziness that ensues. As I reflected on the many years of missionaries at my parents I was grateful. Grateful for the example that my parents set of being welcoming and inviting especially to those that are serving the Lord. It is a sacrifice to not be so close to family but their work blesses many many families.

Seveth Day of Christmas

Today were built candy canes. Pipe cleaners and beads. Easy peasy. Bee really enjoyed all of the colors. I was impressed with his fine motor skills. He barely dropped any.

What a cute and simple activity.

Sixth Day of Christmas

Tonight was one of my favorite nights so far.

We started the evening with a nice dinner out as a family at a restaurant. Yes, a sit down restaurant. I'm so glad that my kids are mostly behaved so that we can go out.

After dinner we drove around town looking at Christmas lights. We stopped got ourselves some Carmel Apple Spice for Starbucks. Its divine if you haven't tried it. I feel like you need cider to properly look at lights. Mostly I just don't like being cold and love an excuse for a warm drink. Bee is only two so I brought a sippy cup of apple juice. He was quite pleased with that.

Our city puts out a tour of lights so we knew where some excellent light displays were. I am not the best navigator so we ended up just driving around aimlessly. We managed to find lots of pretty lights. Bee even says ohhh and ahhh. Sometimes when they are especially good we got a "Wow!"

One of the houses even had the lights timed to music that was broadcasted by radio. Pretty fancy.

We ended up having an extra late night so we just rushed the babes to bed with a Christmas book. They were practically passed right out. I love when that happens.

Fifth Day of Christmas

Wednesday nights I spend my time with a youth group that is organized as a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Today we went to the movies! We saw Meet the Mormons. It was a wonderful film. It was really nice to see how simple things can make extraordinary differences in people lives and others circumstances.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to spend much time celebrating Christmas with my family but I was able to ponder the real meaning of Christmas. Without Christ there would be no Christmas. In my life Christ is all around, in everything I do and say. He is everywhere I look and that is a great blessing in my life. He has made me who I am today.

As I contemplated "Meet the Mormons,' my thoughts turned to who I am and my story. So far my life is quiet ordinary but I love it! I haven't influenced a country, built communities nor held a companionship title but I have a wonderful family who I love and love me. I don't know what my Heavenly Father has in store for me but I know that he depends on me to influence my children. To raise them up in righteousness, that they will be strong virtuous members of society. Its a burden but its one that I am honored to carry.

I love the quote, "The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world." That's exactly how I feel, so blest to have been given amazing little people to fill my home. Motherhood is the greatest blessing and challenge that I will ever have. I know that I am the best Mom when I have the spirit of Christ in my life. If I can remember this lesson this next year should be much

If I can raise children that understand that the real spirit of Christmas is found in serving others as Christ would then my life will have been far from ordinary.

Forth Day of Christmas

Tonight was a busy night. Aren't they all... We ended up making the kids a special bath.

I made bath paints for Bee to use. It was simple I got an ice cube tray and put some conditioner in the slots. Then I just added a bit of food coloring to the conditioner. Simple.

It worked out fairly well and Bee was very well conditioned by the end of the night. Next time I think I will use shaving cream. It will hold the color better and will stick better to the tile walls.

After the bath we read our Christmas story and climbed into bed.

Another wonderful night.

Third Day of Christmas

Today we participated in one of my families traditions.

For as long as I can remember my parents have bought a real Christmas tree from Save On Foods. Every year we gather there to pick out the tree. I know its not our tree but we have a fake tree and I want our kids to have some great experiences to look back on.

The best way to pick out a tree is to give it a big ol' hug. Yes, a hug. You want a tree that's nice and fluffy/thick. One that is even all the way around. The best part about hugging trees is the smell. There is nothing like pine tree scent. Hmmmm...... it just smells like Christmas.

Karsten was so funny. Last year we went but he was too small to really enjoy himself. Today, after we showed him what to do he went around hugging all of the trees. He loved to smell them too. His aunt and uncle took turns holding him up. It was so fun.

For the last few years the trees are just on the side of the building but when I was younger I remember them being in a cage. A big cage where you wandered around. Trees were stacking on the sides and in the middle. It was almost like a maze. You could play hide and seek and it would actually take a few minutes to find you. I loved it and so did my siblings. It made searching for a tree so much for entertaining because you really had to search for your perfect tree.

With a real tree once you get it home you need to cut the strings and let it relax before you decorate it. We always bought it and brought it into the house then decorated it the following night. Once the tree is decorated then we would all sleep under the tree as a family. Most years we have gone out to join in the massive sleepover but its not a weekend so that just isn't going to happen this year. My Mom always has colored blinking lights. It is wonderful because it creates such beautiful images on the ceiling.

We will most likely carry on the tradition of staying up late and sleeping around the tree but it wont be the same. Maybe I will cave and get colored blinking lights but so far I really like my matching simple tree.

Second Day of Christmas

The Eleventh Day happened to land on a Sunday this year. A Sunday that I also had a Young Women Presidency meeting and later on a cousins birthday dinner.

Sundays usually zoom on by. The mornings was a rush getting ready for church, then were at church. Once we got home and got the kids down for a nap I had to quickly grab something for lunch before heading to my meeting. When I got back I just had time to fed Sweets and get in the car to head over for dinner. We had a great time at the birthday dinner then we came home and it was time for a quick Christmas story and then off to bed.

I know it wasn't a very Christmas filled day. We want our Christmas focus to be on Christ. He is the reason for the season. I am glad that we were able to attend church and learn how we can be more like him. I am also blest to be able to serve in the Young Women program. I love the girls that I serve and the women that I serve with.

If Christ were here I believe that he would want us to serve and love those around us. Today we (I) learned about the gift of service.

First Day of Christmas

This year we have decided to do the 12 days of Christmas as our annual tradition. Twelve is perfect because it starts the day after Jason's birthday.

I wrapped up Christmas books for us to choose from and read one every night. The babes can choose any book that they would like with one exception. I have a special book that we are saving for Christmas Eve. We also have different activities planned for each night before bed. Some nights its something small and sometimes its something a little more. With a two year old and a baby there is only so many things we can or want to do. Each year will be different and change as our family changes but I'm looking forward to having some traditions of our own.

On the twelfth day of Christmas we snuggled up on the floor. We took all the pillows off of our couches and made a special snuggle spot to watch "Elf." We had blankets piled on top of us. We drank hot (lukewarm) apple cider, ate popcorn and had a great time.

Sweets is too little to care about a movie so she scooted herself all over the floor. She thought the pile of blankets was funny and wanted to just lay on them. Bee also isn't too interested in a full length movie but he watched most of it, played with Sweets and snuggled me. He's just a good snuggler. Pretty much we watched "Elf" for me but I'm the Mom and sometimes I get to do what I want. That's what happens when your in charge of picking the activities. Jason isn't a Will Ferrell fan but he was a good participant. He loves my ideas but isn't good about picking what to do exactly so he gets stuck with some of things that aren't his favorite. Maybe just maybe next year he will have some Christmas fun ideas that he would love to do.

After the movie we read a Christmas book and the babes went off to bed. Well they were supposed to but Sweets didn't want to listen....

Jason's Birthday

Jason had a wonderful birthday this year. The day before his birthday he had a hot date, aka me! We went out for Japanese food and went to see "The Maze Runner." While we were gone my Dad watched the kids. Yes you read that right, my Dad watched both babes. By himself. I knew that he could do it. He has five kids of his own but I never thought that he would volunteer to watch them. From the sounds of it they all had a wonderful time. Playing, laughing, eating food. You know its a good time when Bee is so excited that "Pa" is here that he couldn't bring himself to go to sleep.

When we got home Sweets was bouncing in my Dad's arms and Bee was in his room but he kept peeking out just to make sure his Grandpa was still there. He really loves my Dad and I'm glad that they have a special relationship. The next day Bee was looking for "Pa." He looked in cupboards, in the shower, behind couches everywhere he could think of. I thought for sure they had played hide and seek but nope. Bee just wanted his Grandpa and thought he had to be there. Somewhere. It was pretty funny. I hope they stay good friends.

Jason also shares his birthday with his older sister. No they are not twins, they are two years apart. Quite the coincidence. We usually have a combined Ranger birthday party for them. This year we hosted and we had a cake and chocolate fondue party. It was a lot of fun and we didn't even get chocolate all over. I thought for sure we would with four little boys under the ages of 4. That was a good surprise.

After the party Jason's younger brother stayed to play Dungeons and Dragons Clue with us. It was Jason's new game. I'm not big into dragons, elves, wizards or any of those but I enjoyed this game. It was basically clue except you can battle monsters to find out one of the cards in the envelope. I mostly just played as if it was regular clue.

I hope Jason enjoyed his birthday celebrations.

Two Years

Bee had his birthday!!

My baby boy is Two years old. I can barely believe that we have had him in our lives for two whole years. He brings so much joy and happiness into every day.

To celebrate we had a family birthday party. I know lots of people that put a lot of time, money and effort into birthday parties but we do not fit in that category at all. Bee doesn't really understand what a birthday is nor will he remember his second birthday party. Why not make it easy? That's exactly what we did. We had over 15 people in our small home. My mother would say "a house with love has elastic walls". This might be true but if all of our immediate family were able to come the we would have been 25 people. Elastic walls might allow for some stretching but creating another room is a little much.

We opened presents, played a bit then ate cake. My personal favorite part of birthday parties.

Jason made a wonderful cake and decorated it oh so nicely. He is a man of many talents.

A few days later we had some friends over to play with Bee's new play dough accessories then we ate the leftover cake.

Easy Peasy. Maybe one year I will worry about décor and a matching theme but then again I might just not. Parties are for kids and they don't care or notice how beautiful the cake looks, they just want to eat it. They don't care what décor we have as long as there are games or things to play with.

I better leave a two year update as well:
Bee loves sweets. He is constantly hugging and kissing her. She is quite patient with him but sometimes enough is enough. I often catch Bee reading to Sweets,. Bee will read just about all day long. He loves to be read to. When we read we like to count things that we see in his books. He is good at pointing to the objects so that I can count them. When he counts he says "ten" for every object that we point to. Its adorable. Bee has a new word every day or so. He constantly surprises me with what new word he says. Bee still does quite a bit of signing but I like it. I know exactly what he wants and he normally signs and try to say the word at the same time. We are working on being kind. If he needs to apologize he often signs sorry and then says who he is apologizing too. Then I say thank you while signing and he signs your welcome. I'm hoping that these manners stick but only time will tell.

When he is relaxing he will often place his hands on his cheeks. Bee helps me fold laundry, aka he rolls them into balls but that's close enough. After breakfast Bee puts his dishes into the sink. If he spills he wipes it up. He does not like to be messy unless we are doing a messy activity. Bee helps me with the dishes. I wash them and put them in the other side of the sink, with some water in it, to be rinsed. Bee rinses then he stacks the dishes in the drying rack. He is getting better at stacking. It never falls over just sometimes its a gigantic pile with no order. In the mornings Bee picks out his own clothes. He has been doing this for a while but I don't have to remind him to get one shirt and one pair of pants he just gets them. He cant dress himself yet but if I stick his head in his shirt hen he can pop his arms into the sleeves.

Bee loves to hold my hand. He will be doing his own thing and so will I but he just wants to hold my hand. He is getting good at walking when we are out and about and he always remembers to hold my hand. When he wants to show me something he comes and gets me and gently leads me. Bee loves to pray. He mostly just mumbles but he normally gets one word per sentence.

Bee is such a blessing in my daily life. Watching him grow is a privilege. I try and remember all of the little things but I know that I have already forgotten some precious moments.

I Am A Mom Though and Though

Today is my oldest's 2nd birthday.

He doesn't really care which doesn't bother me at all but this day has flipped my mind upside down. I keep thinking about who I am and who I was two years ago. I love who I am but I have completely changed during the last two years.

Being a Mom is the greatest thing in my life. I am a Mom! When does this become part of my reality? I still feel like I am going to wake up and all of these little people have just been the best dream of my life.

Don't get me wrong. Everyday isn't a perfect dream come true but after the stinky diapers, dishes everywhere, endless mountains of laundry there are magic moments. I love the kisses, slobbery half open kisses, reading stacks and stacks of books, middle of the night snuggles. Bee and Sweets are so kind and thoughtful. They make me want to be a better person everyday of my life.

What did I even do with my life before them? I remember being busy, happy and fulfilled but honestly what did I actually do. Has it actually been two years since I went to work? Yes, yes it has. I loved my job. Some days I miss it but I wouldn't trade it for moments of being Mum to my angels. What did I think about? My thoughts are constantly overtaken by what does bee need? What does bee need to learn? How can I teach him to use the toilet? How can I keep Sweets safe from Bee's constant snuggles? What activities are we going to do tomorrow? So much bouncing around in there.

I have been terrible at keeping up with this blog recently. Two babies leaves my spare time to napping or dishes but normally napping. I won't always be able to sleep when my babies sleep so I have been taking advantage of it. In the future I am planning on smaller posts sharing the moments that I enjoy. Lets hope that it works out. I want to have my experiences recorded so that I can turn to them throughout the years.

Two years old!! I still cant believe it. I am completely overwhelmed with love. My brother asked me the other day how I keep from exploding and honestly I have no idea. Is this what being a mom is really like? I hope that the years to come are as fabulous.

Five Months

Sweets is such a mover! She inches around everywhere. I am so shocked. Time flew by so so fast. I don't remember Bee growing up this fast. She will probably be crawling in a few weeks or less.

She is an amazing blessing in my life and I am constantly overwhelmed by the love that she shares. Not only for me but with her brother. They are something else and it is a joy to watch. I hope that they continue having a wonderful relationship and that I also can remember these precious moments.

Sweets always has a huge grin, its practically as large as her face. I love it!

Bedtime is great but staying asleep in her own bed well that's a different story. She is such a wonderful sleeper but she needs a snuggle buddy. She doesn't need a diaper change, most nights she's not hungry and she is usually still covered in her blanket so she's not cold. Just wants a snuggle. The first few months that she wanted to snuggle I never got a good night sleep. I was always half alert, protecting her, watching over her and just making sure everything was alright. I had to make sure neither Jason or I rolled on top of her or that the sheet didn't smother her. Not a pleasant way to sleep but now that she's bigger I love it! Some nights she cuddles right up to me and holds my fingers and sometimes she cuddles Jason. I love how she cuddles into her Daddy's arms, it melts my heart.

In the mornings when Bee wakes up he comes into my room and crawls into bed with Sweets and I. He gives us kisses and reads a book or two to Sweets. They are the best of friends. I cant wait to watch them over the coming years. I'm sure in a few months Sweets will steal some of Bees toys but we still have time before that. Bee even shares his Dinos!

Sweets has sensational hair. It is sooo long and gorgeous. In the mornings it sticks straight up in every directions and I love it. She has so much hair that elastic headbands barely stay in.

Tuesday, 21 October 2014

Four months

Sweets is growing like a weed. She loves to coo and make silly baby sounds. She isn't too much of a giggler yet but she sure does get the biggest smiles. They are her whole face. It's adorable!

Sweets not only rolls from front to back and back to front but she rolls multiple times and can cover a fairly large area. She moves her legs like crazy, if she could pick up her chubby belly she would be close to crawling. So far she can slither forward by about a foot. Where did my BABY go?

Man oh man does this girl have hair! I was able to put it into little pig tails. I can't believe how much hair she has, we are so lucky. Now I just have to figure out how to do hair.... I still have time but it's going to have to happen eventually.

Sweets and Bee are the best of friends. Bee is wonderful and Sweets is wonderful but together they are incredible. Bee protects her and takes care of her every single day.

Bee reads to Sweets and he even turns the books so that Sweets can see the pictures. I love when I come into find them cuddled up with a book.

Bee even shares his favorite toys with Sweets. She doesn't have to be sad or squawking. Bee just wants to share what makes him happy. I hope that I can develop these skills.

Conference weekend

We love listening to the words of the prophets.

I enjoyed attending the women's conference with my cousin and a friend. Everything is better with great company.

I often forget how many blessings I have and how many gifts I have been given to bless those around me.

Conference is two days but the days split up so it's not all day long. We spent one morning at my cousins with his family. The kids were so fun to watch together. We relaxed at home and in Sundays we had some new friends over for the last session. It was such a nice and refreshing weekend. We received lots of answers, some new questions and direction to guide us for the next few months. I will share some I my thoughts with you over the next couple of weeks.

Here is Bees conference tent. He loved bringing books and puzzles inside. His tent kept him busy for quite a while so that we could really focus on listening to the messages.

Three Months

Sweets loves to coo and keeps going on and on. It is the cutest thing ever. Sometimes I catch Bee rambling and Sweets goo's right back at him. It is one of the most wonderful things about having two children. I love when she talks to me but watching my babes is just a magical experience.

Story time! Bee loves to read to Sweets, he rambles on and makes different animal sounds. Sweets will make her own noises at him when he reads. I don't know if they can actually communicate but they are trying awfully hard. When Bee holds Sweets my heart just melts.

Sweets rolled from her front to her back the day before she turned three months! What a fast learner. She arched her back and used her head as a heavy weight to flip herself over. On the 21st, third month birthday, she rolled back to mostly front but her little arm got stuck. She generally has her fist in her mouth. She definitely won't let go even to roll over. Silly Sweets.

Little White Dress

Our Little Family

Sweet's blessing day.

My family has a little white dress that my mom wore when she was blest as a baby. My mom kept it and blest her three girls in it. When my little sweetheart arrived I knew I had a choice. I could buy a dress for my kids to use and their posterity or I could use the same dress that both I and my mom wore. This decision was more difficult than I thought it would be.

I bought a new dress. Sweets was going to wear it along with my other girls. Well that was the plan until I saw THE blessing  dress. How often does a blessing dress get to be worn for three generations? Oh probably never. I like to be the exception to the rule so my girls will wear the same dress that their grandma and mom wore. This will probably be the last generation to wear it but I'm glad that we can.

Lily's blessing was wonderful. I'm so glad  that Jason could bless her and that lots of our family could participate.
